Flat High Tread
Flat high tread tires are meant for both on and off road. They do not perform with optimum efficiency on the road or off they are simply a happy medium. These are usually between 10 and 14 inches tall and can be as wide as 8 inches. These are sold for either solid or two piece rims and are mainly used in one wheel drive go carts. We have seen them on Pose rear axles as well but very seldom do you see things like that.
High Tread Rounded
High tread rounded tires are for off road and dirt or gravel roads only. They do not perform well on asphalt, concrete or thick slick mud. These were designed for dry dirt or sand and do not perform well under extremely wet conditions. These are available for two piece, solid rims and pressed rims.
Knobby
This type of tire is the king of off road tires. They are high walled and sharply rounded with tread sizes varying depending on what they are used for. Higher tread are for wetter areas like mud hopping and marsh areas. They also perform well in loose dirt, gravel, soft ground forests, rocky and rugged terrain like mountains, and even snow. Low to medium tread performs well in hard packed earth, sand, and they also perform well in snow. Medium and low tread are usually used for off road racing where there is a track that is set up because they are usually hard packed but some areas are softer that others allowing the medium or low tread to get a bite. These are available for any type of rim but we suggest you use solid rims especially if you intend on jumping the go cart because two piece rims may blow apart.
